The investment project “Murmansk — Petrozavodsk, construction of second railway tracks” is being implemented in accordance with the orders of the Russian Government on the development of railway infrastructure on the approaches to the ports of North-West Russia and the construction of the Lavna Sea Trade Port to ensure the passage of additional cargo traffic (18 million t) to existing and under construction ports located in the northern part of the Kola Peninsula.
According to the forecasts of JSC "IERT" by 2030, the population of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region will exceed 8.5 million people (currently - 7.1 million).
Compared to 2018, the volume of suburban passenger traffic at the St. Petersburg hub will grow 1.8 times and will amount to 142.4 million people per year, and the volume of cargo to the sea terminals of OZD and St. Petersburg will increase 1.4 times - up to 261 million tons per year.
The Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport in the Russian Federation until 2030 and the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation provide for the construction of new express and high-speed lines. The implementation of the Moscow - St. Petersburg high-speed railway project (VSZhM-1) will improve transport links between the regions of the Russian Federation, reduce passenger travel time and provide them with a qualitatively new level of service.
In the pre-war years, the engineers of Lentransproekt (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans) worked in Azerbaijan. According to their project, a single-track railway line was built on a steam locomotive with a baton method of communication on the Azerbaijan railway on the Alaty - Salyan - Astara section with the adjoining sections of Salyan - Neftechala (35 km) and Kazi - Bayramli (15 km).
In the 1930s, engineers of Lentransproekt (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans) developed facilities in the Far East. A section of the Suchan-Daubikhe Far East railway was built according to the institute's project. It was subsequently dismantled. Suchan station was renamed into Partizansk station, Daubikhe station - into Arseniev station.

Manzovka station was later renamed into Sibirtsevo station, Daubikhe station - into Arseniev station.
The railway line Weymarn - Chudovo - Budogoshch, designed by Lentransproekt (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans), in the pre-war years operated as a single-track railway line on steam locomotive traction with a baton method of communication. At present, the movement of trains from Weimarn station in the direction of Budogoshch station is carried out only through the Gatchina station in the direction of the Tosno - Chudovo - Irsa - Posadnikov - Budogosh stations. The mileage in this direction is 200 km.
Prospecting and design work along the Voybokalo - Ladoga Lake line was carried out by employees of the Vologda expedition and the Leningrad project group in the most unfavorable conditions of a harsh winter and constant attacks by enemy aircraft. Research and construction were carried out simultaneously from several places. Working drawings were issued during construction.
The temporary railway line Polyana — Shlisselburg, known as the Victory Road, played a huge role in the fate of besieged Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War.
Railway line Kostanay (now Kostanay) - Uritskoye - a section of the railway Kostanay - Kokchetav (now Kokshetau), designed by Lengiprotrans for the development of virgin lands in the Kazakh SSR and a number of adjacent regions in 1954-1980.
The section Kustanai - Uritskoe was completed in the 1970s and rebuilt to a wide track. In the same period, the institute designed a centralized control system for 125 switches at the site.
