In 1982, Lengiprotrans began design and survey work on the Yagelnaya - Yamburg railway line in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Through the station Yagelnaya (Novy Urengoy) passes the Transpolar Mainline, designed by the Institute in the post-war years with the strategic goal of defending the Arctic coast of the USSR.
The new Yagelnaya - Yamburg road was necessary for the transportation of construction materials, equipment and builders to the recently discovered Yamburskoye gas field. In the weather conditions of the Far North, aviation was often impossible, and rail transport was considered the most reliable alternative.
During the survey it turned out that the work would be complicated by unfavorable soil conditions. In the northern section, there were practically no soils suitable for the construction of road embankments. In this regard, the employees of "Lengiprotrans" A.P. Mamzelev and A.P. Kudryavtsev, together with scientists from TsNIIS, developed and first introduced a one-stage technology for the construction of embankments. According to this technique, the filling was carried out in the winter from frozen dusty sands in clips of geotextiles (non-woven synthetic cloth). After the construction of the embankment, also in winter, the upper structure of the track was laid.
In 1987, the line was put into temporary operation, but due to the economic crisis in the late 1980s, construction was suspended. Nevertheless, the transportation of specialists working on a rotational basis by rail practically did not stop. Without the necessary maintenance, deformations of the roadbed and bridge structures appeared on the line. Since 2003, Lengiprotrans has begun designing the completion of the line in accordance with the norms of public railways.
