Small (Children's) October Railway (MOZhD) is designed to educate and train schoolchildren and students for railway professions.
The first MOZhD in Leningrad was opened in 1948. It was 8.1 km of track and included 3 stations (Kirovskaya, Zoo, Ozernaya). In this form, the road existed until 1964. Subsequently, the line was shortened, and by the 1990s it was only 2 km.
In the 1980s, the question was raised about the construction of a new MOOR route in another territory. Lengiprotrans considered several sites, among which were the northern options (Shuvalovsky, Novo-Orlovsky, Pargolovsky forest parks) and the southern option (Kupchino - Pushkin). On June 22, 2007, the institute received an assignment to develop pre-design studies for the southern version of the Moscow Railway.
The Institute has designed 3 separate points with railway infrastructure on the line:
• Station "Molodezhnaya" (near the metro station "Kupchino") of dead-end type. This solution was first implemented on the Children's Railway system. Consists of 2 receiving and departure tracks with side passenger platforms and approaches to the metro station and railway stopping point.
• The "Yuniy" exit (opposite the "Shushary" stop) consists of 1 main and 1 receiving-departure track with an island passenger platform between them.
• Tsarskoselskaya station (in the area of the stopping point 21 km) is the terminal one, equipped with approaches to public transport in Pushkin. It consists of 2 end-to-end receiving and departure tracks with side passenger platforms, a dead end for locomotive turnover and 5 depot tracks in a hangar for storing wagons and locomotives.
The railway is equipped with all types of communications: operational and technological, two-way park, station notification, train and shunting radio communications. At Molodezhnaya and Tsarskoselskaya stations, stations with centralized water supply and sewerage systems, café-buffets for meals for MOZhD workers and passengers were built.
In view of the large number of communications removed from the construction zone, significant efforts of the institute were required to coordinate design solutions in city and departmental organizations.
In terms of its main characteristics, the new MOOR in St. Petersburg has surpassed all Children's Railways in Russia.
The grand opening of the Malaya Oktyabrskaya railway took place on July 12, 2011.
