Astrakhan railway station is part of the Volga railway. The station building was built at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1960s, in order to service the increased passenger traffic, Lengiprotrans developed a project for a comprehensive reconstruction of the railway station and station, including a project for a new part of the building and a tunnel across the railway tracks.

In size, the new part corresponded to the old station building, which is an architectural monument. The facade of the new building was made of glass, which made it bright and spacious. Three passenger platforms, luggage compartments with access roads were built, the station square was landscaped and a canopy was erected over the platform.

After the opening of the new building, the capacity of the station increased to 700-900 passengers per day.
