The railway section Tselinograd (now Astana) - Kokchetav (now Kokshetau) is a meridional line connecting the South Siberian and Central Siberian railways in Kazakhstan.
The Tselinograd - Kokchetav line was single-track, diesel-powered, which did not satisfy the growing freight traffic between the two main highways of the republic. In addition, it was the shortest route for the export of coal from the Ekibastuz basin to the power plants of the Urals. In this regard, Lengiprotrans has developed a project for the reconstruction of the highway with the laying of second tracks.
In 1970-1971, the site was equipped with double-track inserts with a centralized dispatcher system.
During construction, electrification of the site was carried out on alternating current, traction substations, a two-cable trunk communication line were installed, and automation and telemechanics devices were reconstructed.
