The Karpogory - Vendinga railway line is a part of the Belkomur (White Sea - Komi - Ural) meridian highway in the direction of Arkhangelsk - Syktyvkar - Solikamsk.
The Karpogory - Vendinga section should connect two dead-end lines and turn the Mikun - Arkhangelsk direction into a transit highway. This will directly link the two resource-rich regions and shorten the train route from the Komi Republic to Arkhangelsk by almost 400 km.
In 1971-1972, surveys were carried out at the facility and a design assignment was drawn up. However, it was not approved due to lack of funding until the collapse of the USSR.
In 1993-1994 Lengiprotrans took part in the development of a general scheme for the development of railways in the European North of Russia. The Arkhangelsk - Syktyvkar - Perm railway line with new construction sites Karpogory - Vendinga and Syktyvkar - Chernaya - Kudymkar - Grigorievskaya was chosen as a priority direction.
In 1996, the institute participated in the development of a feasibility study for the construction of the Karpogory-Vending line. It passed all the necessary approvals. In subsequent years, working documentation was developed for the construction of 80 km of the line (40 km from the Karpogory side and the same amount from the Vendinga side). 5 railway bridges have been designed, including the 270 m long Vashka river and the 124 m long Varda river.
In 1999, construction work began on laying the railroad tracks from both sides towards each other. Near Vendinga, the construction of the pillars of the bridge across the Vashka River began.
In 2002, the project was once again suspended due to lack of funds for construction.
It is planned to resume the construction of the Karpogory - Vending line as part of the Belkomur project, which is included in the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation and the Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation until 2030.
