New railway line Korotchaevo - Russkoe

Transpolar highway
Railway line along the Arctic coast of Russia
Новая железнодорожная линия Коротчаево — Русское

In 1984-1987, Lengiprotrans developed a project for the Korotchaevo - Russkoye railway line. This section is part of the Chum - Salekhard - Igarka Transpolar Highway, the project of which was created by the institute (at that time "Lentransproekt") in the postwar years. The road was developed in special secrecy with the strategic goal of defending the Arctic coast of the USSR. In 1953, the work was suspended due to the death of I.V. Stalin, who supervised the construction.

In the 1970s, design and survey work was resumed in certain sections of the Transpolar Mainline. The Korotchaevo - Russkoye line was developed to approach the Yuzhno-Russkoye and Russko-Rechenskoye oil and gas fields in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The road was necessary for the delivery of equipment, as well as builders and operators working on a rotational basis at the fields.

In 1987, preparatory construction work began in the area of the bridge over the Pur River. However, due to the reduction in the volume of capital construction in the country, they were suspended.

Nevertheless, at present, the issue of project implementation is gaining relevance again. The resumption of the construction of the Korotchaevo - Russkoye line is planned within the framework of the Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport in the Russian Federation until 2030 approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.
