Ventspils is the largest ice-free port on the Baltic Sea in Latvia, specializing in the export of oil and oil products. In the 1950s – 1970s, 3 stages of the Ventspils transshipment oil depot were built here.
In the period 1956-1970, the Department of nodes and stations of Lengiprotrans developed more than 20 author's projects for the development of external railway transport of industrial enterprises, industrial zones and ports. In particular, the external railway transport of the oil depot in Ventspils was designed.
