Reconstruction of the railway station in Saratov

Реконструкция вокзала в Саратове

In 1960-1970, Lengiprotrans developed a project for the reconstruction of the railway station in the city of Saratov, built in 1871.

According to the project, it was planned to cut off a part of the station square - this ensured the arrangement of the first floor in the basement part, as well as the addition of a significant glazed volume. At the expense of the latter, an operating room with cash desks, luggage storage rooms and two waiting rooms were placed. Also, all the necessary premises for personnel and passengers were designed: a road depot of the Volga Highway, a telegraph office, a pharmacy, a buffet, a medical office. For the interior decoration, marble, granite, travertine and colored limestone were used.

A passenger tunnel has been laid under the tracks of the Saratov-I station, which simultaneously serves to connect the station area with the central part of the city and to transfer passengers to the island platforms.

The new station was able to simultaneously accommodate 3200 people - almost 2.5 times more than the original building.
