In December 2020, JSC Lengiprotrans completed the development of pre-design documentation for the Shongui Yard.

The basis for the deployment of the design work was the instruction of the General Director — Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Russian Railways O.V. Belozerov on the preparation of proposals for the development of railway infrastructure on the approaches to the Murmansk transport hub. The future marshalling yard should ensure a gradual increase in the volume of railway traffic in communication with the ports of the Kola Bay up to 100 million tons per year, including: with the port of Murmansk — up to 27 million tons per year, with new ports on the West Bank of the Kolsky Gulf — up to 73 million tons in year.

Out of eight options for the new marshalling yard construction site presented by the institute, the option was chosen to place the yard near the existing Shongui station, located in 53 km from the Lavna station and 25 km from the Murmansk station, for the construction of which pre-design studies were carried out and approved by Russian Railways.

At the promising marshalling yard, it is planned to carry out operations to receive freight trains for disbandment, to form new trains and to pass transit freight trains.

The station will be equipped with modern domestic control and monitoring systems.

The estimated processing capacity of the high-capacity hump will be up to 5,700 wagons per day, the wagon turnover of the station for full development — 11,000 wagons per day.
