Second tracks on the Narva - Tapa - Tallinn section

Project Status:
Вторые пути на участке Нарва — Тапа — Таллин

The Narva - Tapa - Tallinn railway line runs through the Republic of Estonia. The line is part of the Baltic Railway, built in 1870. In the 1980s, Lengiprotrans PJSC developed a project for the construction of second tracks on the Narva - Tallinn section.

Strengthening the line was due to the fact that it was an important link in the USSR railway network and connected the Tallinn industrial region and the seaport of Muuga with other republics.

During the design and survey work, one of the main problems was the presence of narrow gauge railways in the Estonian SSR. This complicated the operation and increased the cost of transportation.

Construction began with the laying of second tracks on separate sections. In 1986-1990, 86 km of tracks were laid on the Tallinn - Tapa section and 132 km on the Tapa - Narva section. However, with the beginning of perestroika in the country, work was suspended.

A number of artificial structures were designed on the site: 8 medium bridges, 33 small bridges and pipes, 5 road overpasses, 1 pedestrian bridge, 1 technological transport and pedestrian tunnel.
