The department of bridges of Lentransproekt (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans) developed a project for the capital construction of a bridge over the Nura river on the Karaganda railway in 1946.
The Karaganda road connected the regions of central Kazakhstan with the railway network, provided access to rich natural resources: coal of the Karaganda basin, copper deposits of Kounrad, Dzhezkazgan and Boschekul. The development of the productive forces that followed the construction of the highway turned the region into the largest industrial base of the USSR.
