Electrification of the Norilsk Railway

Project Status:
Электрификация Норильской железной дороги

The Norilsk Railway is an isolated railway network in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It is one of the northernmost steel lines in the world.

In the 1980s, Lengiprotrans prepared a project for the electrification of the Norilsk railway by order of the USSR Ministry of Nonferrous Metallurgy. The line was electrified with 3.3 kV direct current. By 1985, the electric sections were completely replaced by the ER1 and ER2 electric trains.
