Electrification of the Kizel - Perm section

Project Status:
Электрификация участка Кизел — Пермь

Railway line Kizel - Perm - a section of the Sverdlovsk railway. In the late 1940s, Lentransproekt (since 1951 - Lengiprotrans) developed a project for its electrification.

During the design, the following most interesting solutions were developed:
• Application of end-to-end recuperation with the installation of inventory units at traction substations.
• Study of double (compound) overhead catenary suspension, based on a new method for calculating the spans between supports. As a result of the study, the rejection of the compound suspension was substantiated and the expediency of using a semi-compensated suspension was proved.
• Instead of the construction of an independent line for power supply of small intermediate separate points and track buildings, a 6 kV power transmission line was suspended on the overhead contact network supports.
