Lecture on the history of BAM

On November 19, at the corporate museum of JSC Lengiprotrans (part of the 1520 Group of Companies), a lecture “The Baikal-Amur Mainline. Lengiprotrans participation in the creation of the mainline" was held, timed to the celebration of the Designer Day.

The lecture was conducted by the head of the museum Alexander Yakovlevich Mazo and the deputy general director for the organization of survey works Alexei Petrovich Konyukhov. In the 1970s and 1980s, they took an active part in the projects of the institute under the title "BAM". Alexander Yakovlevich was engaged in the development of project documentation, and Alexey Petrovich was on a survey expedition on the BAM Chara — Tynda section.

Alexander Yakovlevich gave a lecture on the history of the BAM design, which dates back to the 19th century, spoke about its' role in the development of the country, and about sections of the mainline designed and built with the direct participation of Lengiprotrans specialists.

Alexey Petrovich shared his memories of the difficult and even dangerous life of prospectors, complementing the story with photographs of that period from his personal archive. He also revealed the nuances of running the track on difficult terrain and showed a map on which the directions of development of the modern BAM were indicated.

Visitors listened with interest to the story, which lasted 1.5 hours. After the lecture, all the participants of the event received the book “BAM. Survey”, written by Igor Georgievich Shevtsov, a veteran of Lengiprotrans and a participant in expeditions on the Baikal-Amur Mainline.
