On October 5, 2018 in Yaroslavl, a scientific and practical conference "Northern Latitudinal Railway: Modern Challenges, Implementation Mechanisms and Prospects" was held, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Northern Railway (SZD).
The conference was organized by the St. Petersburg State Transport University of Emperor Alexander I and the Northern Railway.
The conference was held in the format of a discussion with the discussion of the reports of the participants by a group of experts, which included the head of the Federal Agency for Railway Transport V. Yu. Chepets, rector of PGUPS A. Yu. Panychev, Deputy General Director of Russian Railways O. S. Valinsky, head of the SZD V. F. Tanaev. The discussion was attended by representatives of LLC Northern Latitudinal Passage, JSC Russian Railways (including the Oktyabrskaya and Northern Railways), JSC VNIIZhT, JSC IERT, LLC Kompozit Group. On behalf of PJSC Lengiprotrans, the report “Problems of railway track construction in permafrost regions” was presented by Aleksey Petrovich Konyukhov, Deputy General Director for Organization of Exploration.
In the speeches of the speakers, a wide range of issues was raised: from the selection and arrangement of the Northern latitudinal route to the decision of staffing the work of the new railway line. Based on the results of the conference, a collection of articles on the problems of the Northern Latitudinal Pass will be prepared.
